Next week will be half term (mini celebratory dance). This term has been our toughest yet. Maisy started reception in September and I have never seen a little person more in need of a holiday.
I mean you think you know tired when you have a newborn but I really feel for this little girl of mine she’s absolutely exhausted. Bed time is some nights an hour earlier than usual – mind you I’m not complaining my longer evenings are a god send when trying to keep on top of work but she really needs this week off just to relax and let her little brain have a break.
She has settled in so well over the last few weeks since she started big school, making lots of new friends and learning all sorts. However I may be a little controversial here when I say I think they are still just too young for this full time schooling. Sorry but I do everyday she wakes up asking how long until it’s the ‘day week off’ or weekend as we know it, she just needs some whined down time where she isn’t constantly being stimulated and can just be four years old and play dolls with her sisters.
I am all for teaching children and them growing in independence but the past couple of weeks every parent I have spoken to at the school has said the same – their children are just shattered every single day and are struggling to stay up past dinner time.
As Maisy is my first little one at school I am just hoping it’ll get a little easier on her and my happy little girl will be back in the evening’s and this over tiered, unreasonable, little grouchy stage will be a thing of the past. Well until she reaches her teens and then I am sure she’ll be back!
Roll on Friday!
How have your children found the first term of school? Are they settling in well?
My girls are in year 4 & 8 and they still struggle with the first half term back at school. Not as much as they did though…I do too, after the long summer it takes some getting back into a routine. I can’t wait for some lazy days next week x

Yep same here! Or youngest started in reception this term and the two olders are in yr 3 and 4. I’ve moved tea time to 5pm and the youngest is now in bed by 6:45pm and that just about works but we’ve had lurgies too. Roll on half term!

My eldest is the same age and the last two weeks have been a tremendous struggle. He’s shattered but struggling to sleep as his brain is processing so many new things. I’ve tucked him up in bed tonight hoping that with no school for a week and a half, he’ll relax, unwind and just focus on fun things. I think I need to get him outdoors and running around so he doesn’t have to think, and just play.
