I think the title of the blog speaks for itself but I’m going to say it again, we have discovered the best pub in the village of Corfe and that is The Greyhound.
I have been visiting Corfe for years, my grandparents always rented a cottage there at Christmas when I was little so the village itself holds a lot of sentimental value to me especially since we lost my Grandad. I love taking the girls and showing them where we used to stay.
Recently we went to The Greyhound and had the BEST pub lunch I have had in a long long time. I don’t know if it’s just me but I feel like a lot of my favourite places have gone a little ‘downhill’ of late. Trying not to be to hard on them though with the pandemic etc it’s not been easy for the hospitality industry but regardless The Greyhound seems to be the exception and they have stepped it up a notch.
It was a gorgeous sunny day so we sat outside, the waitresses were so accommodating though, moving us to a more shaded table as we had Elsie with us and getting her a high chair.
The outside area is really lovely – its huge with great views of the castle and surrounding countryside. There’s an outside bar and an area undercover so perfect in all weathers.
We started off with Thai style fish cakes which are crab and cod and tempura prawns. My fish cake was absolutely delicious and a really generous size for a starter you can also get this as a main which I would definitely recommend they’re so good.
For mains I went for a pizza, I have had a pizza here before so I knew I was on to a winner. I had Carne which is mozzarella, tomato, chicken, chorizo, pepperoni and ham – immense! I couldn’t finish it all but they had pizza boxes so we took it away for a little snack later on.
And this was demolished by my other half. Sword in the stone vibes much? How insane is that burger. Now it is safe to say I would never be able to finish this, my bottomless pit of a partner even struggled but he did it and declared it the best burger he’s had in forever. Trying not to be offended that I made burgers only a week previously but ok.
You would think after that, that pudding was a no go but when I saw Churros I couldn’t resist. Something about being out in the sunshine having a lovely time just kept me going – they are delicious, highly recommend trying them.
All in all we had a fantastic HUGE lunch. Followed by a lovely walk in the sunshine, its such a gorgeous area with lots of paths to and trails to walk along.
Elsie was a little dream all afternoon making the other diners laugh with her funny little chatting and singing!
A huge thank you to The Greyhound for hosting us and providing such a great service. We will be back to our favourite pub in Corfe in no time at all I am sure.
