Fireworks & Fun At The Thistle Hotel

Fireworks & Fun At The Thistle Hotel

Last week I was invited to stay at the Thistle Hotel in Poole for a fun bloggers event celebrating bonfire night and enjoying lots of delicious food. I have been for dinner at the Thistle once before so I knew I would be in for a treat.

I arrived to check in at about half 5 – pouring with rain so I wasn’t holding my breath for the fireworks to be going ahead. The room was a good size, with a double bed and a separate sofa bed in the room too.

The decor is a little outdated but the room itself was clean, comfortable and cosy with lots of storage for your bits and pieces. My room was on the ground floor looking out over the harbour, which is gorgeous but the weather was so shockingly bad I couldn’t get any nice photo’s.

Tea and coffee facilities were available in the room along with some complimentary toiletries, which is always helpful for someone like me who tends to forget everything!

After a quick freshen up and a look over the itinerary for the evening I headed off for welcome drinks and to meet some of the other bloggers joining me for the evening.

Quick bathroom mirror selfie first!

After a couple of glasses of fizz and a catch up we headed out to the boat that had been charted for us to watch the fireworks on (and drink more wine obvs). Unfortunately due to the awful weather we couldn’t actually sail out into the harbour but it was still fun to watch the fireworks go off on the top deck and the rain held off thankfully.

Once the fireworks had finished we headed back into the hotel for some food by this time I was absolutely staving, I am used to eating at 5pm with the girls so waiting until 9 was tough!

My date for the evening!

Our starters – Charlotte went for the mozzarella flatbread with hummous which looked amazing, she said it was delicious. I had the soup of the day which on this day was mushroom, was so so tasty.

For mains I had the 5oz rib eye steak with chips – again it was amazing, my steak was cooked exactly how I like it.

Just when I thought I wouldn’t be able to eat another thing out came this incredible eaton mess believe it or not it tasted even better than it looked – was so creamy and just amazing I would eat that every day if I could but my hips would never forgive me.

Lots of wine was consumed throughout the night so as you can imagine I was soon out for the count. After a good night sleep the next morning we were (some how) starving again so went up to enjoy a bit of breakfast. Being a terrible blogger/still half asleep I completely forgot my camera and phone so I have no photos! I can assure you I was not disappointed though it was a buffet style breakfast which provided a wide range of cooked and continental breakfast options – may of even gone back for seconds!

All in all we had a really fun time staying at The Thistle the hotel is perfect for anyone planning to visit Poole with beautiful harbour views, walking distance into town and a short drive from lots of great attractions.

Oh Amy, you always look so stunning. Even when watching fireworks in the rain. It looks like a lovely evening. It is a pity that the weather was bad and you didn’t get to go out on the boat. And that meal looks amazing. I could quite happily eat that Eton mess pudding right now. Hugs Mrs H xxxx

Aw even though the weather wasn’t the best it sound like you all had a fun evening. The weather was a bit of a wash out on bonfire night wasn’t it? The hotel looks great and the food looked incredibly yummy. I agree about the decor though, maybe time for a change? Thanks for sharing.

Wow that food looks delicious, I don’t think I’ve been to the Thistle since I was about 17, I might have to visit to test the food for myself!

You were lucky the fireworks weren’t cancelled, although I bet you were glad to get in from the rain at the end of it.
