Our 5 favourite Bedtime Stories

Our 5 favourite Bedtime Stories

I love reading with my girls I have done every evening since Maisy was just a few months old, we have a huge box filled with all sorts of stories but the girls definitely have their favourites. The ones we all know off by heart but seem to come back to over and over again I introduce new books to them regularly and we also visit the library and borrow some but these are our current favourites: favourite bed time stories

  1. Giraffes can’t dance – The big bright illustrations are great in this book, the girl’s all love this story and have done for a good couple of years. 51XMHF52C6L._SX379_BO1,204,203,200_
  2. Alfie Outdoors – A new book we we’re sent recently. This book sends me straight back to my own childhood, I use to have these books when I was younger and I love being able to share that with the girls, a lovely little story with  beautiful illustrations. 51rpsL5Um2L._SY498_BO1,204,203,200_
  3. The Very Hungry Caterpillar – The first book I ever bought Maisy we used to read this over and over again and it is still one of our most favourites, I love that it encourages them with counting too.51ZX-h5blcL._SY354_BO1,204,203,200_
  4. The Gruffalo – what child does not love the gruffalo! A story we can all recite with our eyes closed after many nights of reading this twice. 61+jJDLJKdL._SX401_BO1,204,203,200_
  5. Lola Pug – another recent addition to our collection I reviewed the book in full here and it has stayed a firm favourite and with out doubt after I read them this book I hear “can I have a puppy?”

Great choices here! Zach has the noisy grufallo’s child book and we know that off by heart! We also love Peace at Last, What the Ladybird Heard and We’re going on a bear hunt! Oh and also whoosh around the mulberry bush and digger dog! We’ve read all of these over and over again! Zach goes through stages where he’ll happily sit and listen or be trying to play but I read no matter what, even if he’s only half listening! Thanks for hosting #kidscorner

We love all of these apart from we have never read Lola’s Pug so we will definitely have to try that. I love that my girls are bookworms, sounds as though yours are too! #kidscorner

Great list! We also love The Hungry Caterpillar and the Gruffalo! Haven’t heard of the other ones but will have a look at our library. I like the look of the giraffe one 🙂 x #KidsCorner

I haven’t read a few of these. The Gruffalo and The Gruffalos child are a big favourite in my house. The picture of you all is so lovely!!! I don’t know why, but I’ve just realised we don’t have a copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar. I loved that book when I was young. I must add it to my shopping list. x

Love this list – we have three of these books and my girls love them. We rarely read the original version of the Gruffalo these days though as Jessica prefers her own Gruffalo book which includes the photos from our Gruffalo trail and the story of our day out which I wrote in the style of the Gruffalo.

We love reading here and 4 of those are our favourites too. Not at all familiar with Lola Pug so will have to get a copy. Great photo – so lovely to share books with the children isn’t it? Probably my favourite thing 🙂 Thanks for sharing/hosting #KidsCorner

Lamb is loving his The Boy Who Lost His Name personalised book at the mo. He also loves reading The Gruffalos Child at bedtime too. The hungry caterpillar was my fave as a child 🙂 xx #Kidscorner

I really must get my hands on a copy of Lola Pug, I loved your review! Thankyou for the nudge.

My son loves all the books you have mentioned, we haven’t tried Lola Pug yet but will have to see if the library has it. I brought him Giraffe’s can’t dance when he was a baby as I love the moral behind it (I also dance like the giraffe, lol!)

Great list here. We have the Caterpillar & Gruffalo but not the other three. Thanks for the suggestions, it’s always great to have recommendations. We have so many books, it’s insane lol The boys love the Kipper series & Mr Men. My daughter is partial to the Peppa Pig books right now. Thanks so much for hosting #KidsCorner x

I love discovering new books! We have so many books but it’s great when they really get into some of them. My little girl is working her way through the Little Miss series at the moment, I don’t think they’re quite as good as the Mr Men though. Thanks for some more ideas for new books! #kidscorner

These are all favourites in our house apart from Lola the Pug, I’ve never read that but I’m sure the boys would love it so I will have to look out for it. We have an Alfie treasury from when I was young at they are still some of my favourites 🙂 xx

We love the gruffalo! I’ve got the Alfie and Annie rose Shirley Hughes ones for when Amelia’s a little older. A couple on the list we don’t have so will have to check out! Xx

We only have The Very Hungry Caterpillar! I’m definitely going to be ordering some of the others immediately. We can’t get enough books in our home. My 4 year old is currently in love with Strega Nonna by Tomie dePaola and Dragons Love Tacos by Adam Rubin and Daniel Salmieri.
