Team SCA recently got in touch with me and asked me to take part in a challenge, to try something new, feel empowered and push my boundaries. For those who don’t know Team SCA were the only all-female contingent in the world most toughest ocean race – The Volvo Ocean Race and they only went and won it! Comfortably beating six all-male competitor crews across a gruelling 647 mile race – go girls!
Team SCA are all about trying fun, new, exciting experiences the will challenge you mentally and physically; it’s a view shared by their sponsor, SCA, the leading global hygiene and forest products company behind household brands including TENA, Bodyform, Velvet, Cushelle and Plenty. SCA champions and supports women’s empowerment by giving them access to and education about hygiene products and solutions across the world.
If you follow my Instagram you may already know what my challenge was as I shared a few photos last week, but for those who don’t – I only flew a flipping helicopter!
I was seriously terrified beforehand, this is completely out of my comfort zone. I’ve never been much of a thrill seeker, but since having the kids I have become even more of a wuss!
Yet here I was pulling a stupid face in a helicopter – and I absolutely loved it. It was so much fun, I did the tactical helicopter lesson with hands on hover challenge at Heli Air – Thruxton through Virgin experience days. There was 4 of us in the helicopter (including the pilot) and we each took in turns to sit in the pilots seat and have ago with steering and hovering the helicopter, the lesson lasted about half and hour with a demo from the pilot and then up we were off!
It flew by all too quickly, I wish I had had longer to get to grips with it – helicopter flying is not easy at all but regardless is was still an amazing experience that I would love to do again.
A year ago you wouldn’t of gotten me on this helicopter my anxiety was rife and effecting my day-to-day life so this has really pushed my boundaries and I felt amazing for doing it.
Thanks for the experience Team SCA, you wanted to empower women and certainly have!
