There’s nothing quite like a trip to the theatre, especially when it’s to see a show as beloved as Chitty Chitty Bang Bang! We had the pleasure of attending the production at the Bournemouth Pavilion last night, and what a fantastic night it was.
Before the show, we were invited to the press event, where we were treated to drinks, delicious cakes, sweets, and plenty of fun photo opportunities. And they even had a replica of the iconic Chitty Chitty Bang Bang car, brought in from the Beaulieu Motor Museum! What a showstopper, we even grabbed a little selfie with the car.
As for the show itself—brilliant from start to finish! This production was packed with energy, humour, and all the charm of the original. The cast did a fantastic job bringing the story to life, and the performances were both hilarious and heartwarming. The lovable Caractacus Potts, was played brilliantly by Ore Oduba, had the audience cheering him on, while Truly Scrumptious and the Potts children brought so much warmth to the stage. Of course, the villains were equally entertaining—Vulgaria’s bumbling spies had us laughing throughout, and the Child Catcher (played by the fantastic Charlie Brooks with just the right amount of menace) sent a shiver down the spine. I remember being absolutely terrified of the character as a child!
The staging and choreography were also impressive, with vibrant set pieces transporting us from the Potts’ quirky workshop to the fantastical world of Vulgaria. And let’s not forget the star of the show—Chitty herself, she was floating, flying and driving around the stage it was fab!
Overall, this was a fun, feel-good production that stayed true to the classic story while adding fresh energy to the mix. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is the perfect family-friendly show, packed with laughter, adventure, and a bit of theatre magic.
