How to make your luxurious bathroom more eco-friendly

Bathrooms in 2022 can be both luxurious and environmentally friendly.  With more and more homeowners looking to make choices to help protect the environment, its easy to understand why more eco friendly solutions for bathrooms are available now than ever before.

Being more environmentally friendly in the bathroom isn’t just about taking shorter showers and fewer baths either. When having a new bathroom installed or designing a brand new one, you have the chance to incorporate eco-friendly and sustainable elements into your space.

It is largely thanks to new creative technologies that luxury and eco-friendly can now go hand in hand! Greener bathrooms no longer must be dull or boring! Here are some tips from luxury bathroom installer Kallums Bathrooms on how to design luxury, spa-like bathrooms while also being eco-friendly.

Eco-friendly bathroom tiles

You can think greener from the ground up! One of our top tips to being more sustainable in the bathroom is considering where your tiles are from. One of the most fun aspects of renovating a bathroom is choosing the tiles. And luckily there are lots of eco-friendly options available ranging from shimmering glass to earthy cork to clean-looking ceramic.

Look for brands that produce tiles with closed-cycle technologies that recover and reuse energy, water, raw materials, and waste materials. If you are thinking of painting your bathroom walls, remember to look for a non-toxic brand.

Upgrade to a low-flow toilet

Toilets use a lot of water, particularly ones installed prior to the Energy Policy Act. So, if you do have an older toilet, it could be wasting more water than modern and luxurious models. A low-flow toilet model or a dual-flush toilet, are an easy way to have a greener toilet.

We love the TOTO range and their Ultramax one piece toilet looks as good as it works. The elongated bowl, super sleek tank styling and one-piece design prevents leaks. It even has a ceramic coating that stops debris from sticking so you can use much less cleaning products on it!

Bamboo in the bathroom

Bamboo is a fast-growing raw material and a highly sustainable plant (it only takes three to five years to grow – much faster than trees!) Bonus, it does not require chemicals when being cultivated and doesn’t harm the environment. It is also naturally very strong and has a long lifespan, as well as being light to handle.

These properties mean opting for luxury bamboo products in your bathroom is a sensible and sustainable choice. You can invest in super soft luxury bamboo toilet roll, natural bamboo toothbrushes and even bamboo towels.

Install a shower screen

A lot of shower curtains are made from plastic, PVC or vinyl and are not the most environmentally friendly option. When replacing your shower curtain, go for materials like natural cotton or bamboo or for the best option install a glass shower screen. The lifespan is longer, and a frameless shower screen is easy to clean with green products.

Installing a high quality, luxury bathroom is far more sustainable as these bathrooms will last longer, be easier to clean and require less maintenance. Contact Kallums Bathrooms for a luxurious, eco-friendly designed bathroom today.

I like the idea of replacing the older toilet with a modern low-flow model. Older toilets can use up to 7 gallons a flush! Most high-efficiency toilets use only 1.5 gallons of water per flush, and some use even less. Such toilets are a little bit more expensive than older alternatives, but it’s definitely worth the investment because it saves you water.
When you consume less water, you get lower water bills.
