Date night is one I always look forward to! James and I both have really busy work schedules and with the kids also thrown in the mix, it’s rare that we have all that much quality time together.
However we do try and make the effort to have at least one date night a week. Whether that’s going out somewhere or just having an evening at home where all the laptops and phones are switched off and we cook dinner together or something.
Last weeks date night was pretty epic, we were invited down to Inn In The Park for dinner. The Inn In The Park is in Branksome a lovely area just by the beach, it was a gorgeous warm summer’s evening perfect for a little walk at the same time.
On arrival we were greeted by very pleasant waiting staff who were amazing and attentive all night. They talked us through the menu and specials answering any questions we had and offering their recommendations. The whole place had a lovely friendly atmosphere that made us feel instantly at ease and relaxed.
We were given plenty of time to browse the menu over a chilled glass of delicious sauvignon blanc – my favourite.
For starters James and I decided to share the halloumi chips with sweet chilli and rocket and fresh squid in light batter. Both were incredibly tasty and just the right size for a starter. To think this time a few months ago I didn’t really understand the whole halloumi craze thing, it clearly takes some good halloumi to get you falling in love with it – now I can’t get enough of the stuff.
For mains I opted for the parmesan crusted chicken and James ordered the lamb burger from the specials board. Again cooked perfectly and I loved the garlic buttery flavours in my potatoes. I always think new potatoes are hard to make interesting but these were scrumptious. I had a sneaky bite of James’s burger too and it was just bursting with flavour.
The whole menu looked great to be honest – the choice with hard. So many different options with a twist on a traditional pub menu using different ingredients that I am desperate to go back and try.
As the wine continued to flow (our glasses never fell too low before they were topped back up again by our waitress) we some how found the space to fit in a little bit of pudding. How could we of said no when they all sounded so incredible!
We couldn’t decided on one each so again decided to share the rhubarb cheesecake and the summer pudding with a basil granita. I must admit I just really wanted to try the basil granita. Which I actually loved, James wasn’t too keen I think the basil taste in a sweet dessert was a little alien to him but, for me it just worked – I love basil. The rhubarb cheesecake was the overall winner though – rich and creamy with the sharp rhubarb it was perfection and I would highly recommend!
After dinner we took a little walk and ended up down by the beach. The beach is literally a stones through from the Inn In The Park so it was the perfect way to end a lovely date night.
We were both hugely impressed by the food but what really stood out to us was the outstanding service. There was no question that couldn’t be instantly answered about the menu, we didn’t feel rushed at any point and we felt so well looked after.
I am so glad we found the Inn In The Park. It as though we have discovered a real gem and we will be back in the not to distant future, I am sure.
