A couple of weeks ago I was invited along with a few other bloggers and journalists to visit West Compton Manor for an evening of solving murder mysteries with the Far Out Theatre.
I have to be honest before hand I really didn’t know what I was getting myself into, I have never done a murder mystery night and all I could think of was Professor Plum in the study with a revolver. Never the less I thought it would be a giggle so off I went.
West Compton Manor was easy enough to find, set in the Dorchester countryside you do end up following a bunch of single track roads in what feels like the middle of nowhere but it soon appears looking every bit the perfect country manor house you would expect.
On arrival I was greeted by the butler Ben Tover – yes really, he showed me into the lounge for a little bit of tea and cake before I was shown to my room.
I was staying with Alice in the Balcony Room a double room with en-suite, it is such a stunning room which transports you back to Edwardian times with it’s elegant old English decor and furnishings. I have about 50 photos of the room it is so pretty I got carried away snapping but I will only show a few of my favourites.
Biggest comfiest bed ever!
The style is kept throughout with finishing touches really making is something special.
A balcony area to enjoy the warm summer sun.
After a little explore it was soon time for dinner and the mystery solving to begin so I headed back down to the lounge where I met the other guests and was greeted with a cocktail – cocktails on arrival I knew I was already on to a winner.
The Murder mystery soon began, the other guests and I were all attending the wake of a Mr Ed N. Burried and the Far Out Theatre team acted out scenes throughout the evening whilst we as the guests asked questions as we tried to figure out who murdered poor Mr Ed N. Burried. They were brilliant, the scene’s were so well rehearsed with twists and turns along the way and a pinch of comedy thrown in for good measure. They all managed to stay perfectly in character despite us throwing some ridiculous questions at them, they could think on their feet and answer anything!
I don’t want to give too much away about the storyline as obviously it will spoil anyone who does plan to visit but I can assure you, you will be thoroughly entertained and not to mention well fed. In between acting out scenes and answering our questions the team were also providing us a lovely meal and making sure our wine glasses were never empty.
So did I get it right? Did I solve the mystery? Were my detective skills on point?
No they bloody weren’t. Despite my failings and realising I will make a crap Miss Marple I had a fab night, it was murder mystery done in a completely unique and fun way. I’d highly recommend to anyone looking for a night away West Compton Manor is a stunning location and the Far Out Theatre really make it into a totally different experience.
Thanks for having me guys I loved it!

Ah! I’d so love to go on a murder mystery night or weekend. I love detective shows, but like you, I don’t think I’d make a very good Miss Marple ๐ x

This sounds like so much fun, Amy!! I’ve never been to anything like it. It must be really odd but really good to have all that go on around you. Did you manage to get some sleep or did the murderer put the fear in to you? ๐
