It feels a little strange to be talking about autumn when there’s a heatwave in full swing but as I negotiating the busy summer holidays and attempting to get the kids ready for back to school, I am also planning a little bedroom make over.
I see my bedroom as my sanctuary; my little slice of peace and calm in an otherwise quite crazy household. It’s my place to unwind at the end of a busy day so I like to keep it clear from clutter and mess so strictly no piles of washing or stray toys allowed to creep in.
I do like to change up the decor depending on the season. For me the easiest way for me to do this is by keeping the main elements relatively neutral; the walls, blinds etc but regularly swap out accessories. not only is this cheaper than redecorating a whole room but it’s also really quick and easy to do.
As my thoughts are turning to Autumn colours schemes I have been researching current trends, Pantone’s autumn/winter colour trends for 2022 are really interesting. They’ve really mixed it up with the timeless classics, pastels and energised brights. I have to say after such a long time looking at neutral after neutral I am being seriously drawn in by all the bright colours.
Particular favourites of mine are PANTONE 14-0952 –Spicy Mustard & PANTONE 18-6026 – Abundant Green. I think either of these would make a real statement int he home this Autumn/Winter. Which are your favourites?
It can be tough to work out how to incorporate these colours into your bedroom so there are some of my top tips.
New bed
A great way to make a real change n the bedroom decor is with a new bed or headboard. The dark grey combined with the spicy mustard yellow works so well. It’s not the typical reds, oranges and browns we tend to see in autumn but it still gives you that cosy autumn feel and the Mustards is such a statement. Again, blankets and cushions are a really easy way to add in some colour more subtle way. Big chunky knitted blankets are perfect for Autumn. They add in layers of texture and give you that cosy vibe you want in the colder months. Plus they can be easily stored away for next season.
Lighting
A new lamp shade or a bedside lamp is always a great accessory to change up in your bedroom. Not only can it change your rooms lighting but you can pick them up relatively inexpensively and some look super cool. It’s a really easy way to add a pop of colour too if like me you love the brighter tones for autumn/winter. Love this option from Made.
Rug
A rug is another great way to add in some new textures to a room and instantly update your flooring. Even if you have carpet not only can they bring in some personality to the room they can also help define space.
Curtains
We have just had blinds in our bedroom since we bought our house but It really is the time to add some curtains, I just don’t feel like the bedroom is quite complete until you have curtains up. Again they can add in some colour and just create that cosy, warm atmosphere. They will also help to keep the warmth in the room and with the current energy prices booming that’s only ever going to be a good thing!
Plants
A different way to add in more shades of that Pantone – Abundant Green is through plants. Greenery is so calming so a perfect way to create that relaxed atmosphere we want in the bedroom. Tip – opt for low maintenance plants, if you’re anything like me you need to keep it simple and keep watering to a minimum.
