Office space essentials when working from home

I love the freedom that working from home gives me, I can still be there for my children’s school pick up’s and special days but I am also providing for my family and most importantly stimulating my own mind and fulfilling ambitions.

Working from home doesn’t come without its challenges though staying motivated is one of them, I wrote a post with some tips you can find here.

I find having a designated work space is the best way to keep focused, I’d love my own office (one day I’ll get there) but until then I have my little corner. I have loved making it just perfect for me with fun prints, rose gold accessories and fake cactus’s I can’t kill! I thought today I would share with you my office essentials, a mix of those bits you really need and those that you don’t but will make your work space lovely!

The Desk

So first up, the desk. Now I know a lot of working from home mumma’s just take a laptop over to the sofa or the dining room table but I just find myself so much more productive when I am sat at a desk. I have it facing away from the TV and any other distractions and I can just focus on the task in hand. With little space I opted for the smaller Micke desk from IKEA. It fits into the space perfectly and I love the drawers for storing paper work.

Storage

Which brings us on nicely to the storage. I have a lot of paper work; from contracts to invoices and they all need to be filed and stored neatly. While the rose gold paper tray looks cute, it’s not great for organisation. This is where you need a really good filing system, stationery pieces from  Engelbert Strauss are ideal. It’s one of those one stop shops to get all the bits you need from files, dividers and desk organisers you will have everything you need to stay on top of that never ending paper work and they store away out of sight it makes the end of year accounts so much quicker.

Prints & Decor

So this is just to make the area look pretty – yes. But I think having a happy, inviting workspace really does make all the difference. If you’re spending long lengths of time sat there you need to be happy with what you’re looking at. The posters I have up in my workspace came from PosterLounge, I also really love the range of prints from Desinio. The little trinkets and bits I have on my desk I have collected over time from here and there. Primark is a great place to find affordable on trend little decorative bits. Fake flowers/plants are ideal no watering, no mess, no dead flowers sat on the side for weeks.

Equipment

Now these pieces do depend on preference. I have kind of picked up as I have gone along with my equipment, some of the bits you don’t realise you need until you actually need to use it. I upgraded my Mac Book air to a iMac last year it’s made a huge difference having a bigger screen. I would also advise anyone working from home to invest in a good printer/scanner I have the Epson EcoTank ET-4550, it’s quite good but the amount I have to print/scan and sign things now its a god send having our own and not having to nip to the post office or library. I am going to be posting a more in depth post about the equipment I use for blogging/vlogging in the not to distant future so if you are interested in reading more about camera’s, software etc then keep an eye out for that.

So those are my office space essentials. I hope you have found this useful.

I think all your recommendations are pretty useful and I loved the pics.

I also work from home. And sometimes it´s hard to have your office at home. And it gets worse as a mother. For my the hardest part is preventing my daugter from interrupting my work.

I think the right space makes it easier.

    Don´t you think so?

Good recommendations. Being a working mom, i felt its very very difficult to manage both work n kids at home. Trying out Coworking desk now and feel its much more comfortable. Right space makes work easy for sure.

Excellent advice. Love your setup and colour scheme. I have the same desk at home and I love how it doesn’t take up too much space.
